The Lake's Grace
30 January 2025 10:43Hello!👋 I answered an oc ask post on Bluesky about a near-death experience an oc had. I typed in a story for Yaf's close encounter with death and realized it would go well here as well. So here's a short story about the time a lake spirit saved Yaf from certain death...
---
One time, Yaf tried fishing for himself in a large lake near his town. He was incredibly lucky, getting catch after catch, eventually he felt bold enough to venture further inwards for a bigger score. As he stood up to call to friends waving at the shore, his weight combined with the weight of the fish caused the bottom of the boat gave out and he quickly sunk down.
Yaf never learned how to swim, so he just frantically thrashed about the depths, before passing out...
He woke up later on the shore of the lake, being woken up by his deeply concerned parents and sister. To his right lay an odd-shaped branch, its end curved like milky water.
Yaf, his family, and the whole town believed that the lake's patron spirit saved Yaf from drowning and gave him the branch as a momento of its favor. Yaf respects and reveres the spirit to this day, putting jewelry on the branch and placing it on his altar.
